About Us | Company History
The Capital Tutoring story begins at East Coast Tutoring, Inc. in Vienna, VA. East Coast Tutoring operated in the Northern Virginia area for over fifteen years under owner Ms. Claudia Brown and offered a casual environment where learning was not seen as a chore, but as an enjoyable lifelong process. Clients were treated as individuals with unique needs and goals, not isolated cases. While East Coast Tutoring was far from perfect, it established Capital Tutoring’s two fundamental principles:
- The value of developing a meaningful relationship with clients, and
- The importance of a completely customizable academic approach.
In the fall of 2002, Akshat (A.K.) Prasad was hired by East Coast Tutoring to work as an academic tutor. Over the course of the next several years, A.K. became more involved in the business, not only working with clients, but eventually managing strategic planning and day-to-day operations. In January 2008, Claudia moved to California and offered A.K. her clients at East Coast Tutoring. Claudia’s rationale behind this decision was two-fold: A.K. had proven himself as capable of running and managing the business and, more importantly, Claudia trusted him to look after her students and continue to provide the same quality service. Upon taking over from Claudia, A.K. renamed the firm Capital Tutoring, foreshadowing the intellectual capital he and his staff would be investing in their clients.
Adhering to East Coast Tutoring’s fundamental principles of developing meaningful client relationships and offering a customizable program, he began to further grow the organization. Having learned East Coast Tutoring’s operations, he worked to create a more professional experience through a formalized approach. By first setting formal academic goals, and then tracking and measuring results, Capital Tutoring is able to offer its clients a tangible assessment of progress. In order to support its goal oriented approach, Capital Tutoring expanded its service offerings to include academic consultation and planning services.
By drawing on experiences from academia and the workplace, Capital Tutoring prepares students not only for higher education but their careers.
